We pride ourselves on producing top quality grass fed lamb.
Charollais terminal sires produce top yielding market lamb carcasses with well developed muscle in the loin and gigot areas, with minimal fat coverage. This is what lamb processors want. Charollais cross lambs kill out at a much higher percentage than other breeds.
Our ewes are lambed out in March in our lambing barn, then at 2 days old they are moved outdoors on pasture with open fronted shelters bedded with straw.
During the winter months our ewes are fed on high quality alfa-alfa grass mix hay with a supplemental ration of whole barley and rolled peas. Lambs are creep-fed with a grain lamb ration to supplement their diet until the grass comes through, then they are finished entirely on grass or hay (during winter months), with Blue Rock sheep mineral and selenium salt blocks.
Our lambs run around and play in the pasture with one another, and it makes great entertainment watching from our deck or kitchen table. We do not believe in confining the lambs and feeding them high protein diets to fatten them quicker.
Our lambs are allowed to mature slowly, and may not reach heavy weights like confined lambs, but the carcass is better finished with more flavour. There is nothing better than eating grass fed lamb raised naturally.
We are in the business of producing quality animals, raised ethically and humanely, with respect, in a natural and happy environment.
For predator control we use two Great Pyrenees dogs, Thor and Loki, whom run with our sheep year round.
